Timber Protection

The Biological research of wood and it’s renewable material is what is referred to as wood science. In other words, the term wood science can also be known as wood technology. Wood is treated as a material in direct comparison with other products. Materials properties, ease of it being worked on and its value are among the few properties which are compared against those of wood and other materials. Wood has many advantages and this technology takes the advantages and utilizes them. The wide range of products where wood can be used is just one of the many advantages that give wood an upper hand over other products. It is also based on renewable resources. Timber can be utilized in very many applications, and this makes it more valuable.

The good appearance of your timber made structure cannot be guaranteed if protection of the timber is not done. Wooden structures have to be kept away from water and pests that eat through the wood. The rotting and decay of the timber products are caused by the moisture and the insects. There are many ways timber is treated among them being the ACQ in other words alkaline copper Quaternary. As the name implies the preservative is made of copper products. As effective as this preservative, it has some downside to its use. The chemical is highly corrosive to most metals, the chemical corrodes away galvanized fasteners and therefore only stainless steel is used. The species of the wood and the application of the wood will determine how many chemicals will be used on the wood. The level of chemical concentration will be determined by where the piece of wood is going to be put to use.

Many methods are being invented to protect the wood, and one of them is the copper metal method. The use of this method is fast being accepted because it is not corroding the metal fasteners. This process is what in other words called the micronized copper wood preservative. A high-pressure liquid that has the copper metal mixed in it is driven into the wood. The process eliminates the need to dissolve the copper as is done in earlier copper-based preservatives. When this process is used to treat timber the timber properties are increased highly. The timber treated in this way is used in both outdoor and indoor frames that last very long.

Termites cannot eat through timber treated through this method. It has also shown to be an improvement in corrosion resistant properties to metal fasteners. The wood treated using this method last longer and is stronger.
